That three word statement may seem simple and declarative. Yet, the assertion that fat girls do dance challenges a ton of assumptions and stigma around what plus-size people can and can’t do.

Cathleen Meredith, a self-proclaimed “fat girl,” knows the importance of dancing while people are watching. Meredith is the subject of the first video in an anticipated partnership between acclaimed producer Shonda Rhimes and Dove, called Dove Real Beauty Productions. Marcellus has lived on the streets of Philadelphia for more than four years, and he wants you to know that being homeless isn’t easy.

“It’s, like, waking up hungry. Going to sleep hungry,” he says in a new video, as he fiddles with a small piece of blue plastic in his hands. “But this right here — this got me some food. This got me clothes. This got me a shower and all that.”

It’s not just any piece of plastic. Marcellus is holding a Bluetooth-connected beacon — a small component of an app called StreetChange that could transform how passersby help curb homelessness in their cities.

Even with all the crap going on in the world, you can always count on the internet to come up with something stupidly wonderful to distract you from reality and cheer you up.

Alex Holachek’s “Reaction GIF Generator” (via BoingBoing) isn’t your typical GIF generator. In what must have been a clever napkin idea, Holachek decided it would be brilliant to combine the randomness of Giphy with Microsoft’s Emotion API, which uses machine learning to detect between eight distinct, universal emotions (anger, contempt, disgust, fear, happiness, neutral, sadness, and surprise).

The result of his mashup is this hilarious GIF generator that analyzes your selfie and then spits out a GIF to match your facial expression. Read more…
