Question by Caitlin: What are some good soprano song for musical theatre?
I’m working on auditioning for the Musical Theatre program at the college, so I need some more song ideas. I need to have 1 up-tempo and/or comedic song and 1 slow song/ballad. I’m here to see if you guys have any better ideas than I do.

“Soprano” doesn’t seem to mean the same thing in musical theater, but here are some suggestions:

Up-beat
1) “I have Confidence” Sound of Music
2) “If I Were a Bell” Guys and Dolls
3) “Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man” Showboat

Ballad
1) “Til There Was You” Music Man
2) “And This is My Beloved” Kismet
3) “Take Me to the World” Evening Primrose

They’re well-known, but not overdone, which is good. They’re also all very good acting pieces, which musical theater schools love.
